The Kailua High School
(KHS) Safe Schools Task Force is a group of students from KHS who formed on
their own in 2005 in hopes of working to decrease fighting on and off the KHS
campus. The Safe Schools Task Force is
made up primarily of KHS leadership students and additional KHS students who
are interested in promoting safety. The
group meets with APIYVPC staff once every two weeks during 1st period. Some of the activities the Safe Schools Task
Force has been involved in recently include critiquing the APIYVPC’s research
instruments and processes, providing advice on analysis of APIYVPC data, and
working with APIYVPC staff on various advocacy projects to prevent youth
violence. In particular, the Safe
Schools Task Force played a major role in helping to plan the M&M Ohana
Night - Movie and a Message, held on May 5, 2007, at KHS. In the future, the Safe Schools Task Force
will continue to work with the APIYVPC to plan research activities and empower
the community.
