Ke Ala Laua‘e Women’s Support Group: This group of individuals is comprised of mothers who live in the Waimanalo community, and who are concerned primarily with reducing the levels of community substance use. In 2004, this group developed its own culture-based substance use recovery center and secured funding from the State of Hawai‘i to run the program. While maintaining their original focus, the Ke Ala Laua‘e Women’s Support Group also supports the APIYVPC by assessing research instruments and working with the staff to engage other families in mobilization and training activities. The APIYVPC comes as guests to their meetings about once every two weeks to work on various projects.
