Karla M. Filibeck, B.S. is a graduate associate at the Asian/Pacific Islander Youth Violence Prevention Center and assists in data collection, analysis, and dissemination as well as in coordinating school-community events such as M&M Night at Kailua High School. Karla graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM) with a degree in Family Resources in May 2009 and is now pursuing a Master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning at UHM. Since 2008, she has also worked for the Coalition for a Drug-Free Hawaii where her positions included Prevention Specialist for the Prevention Resource Center and the Strengthening Hawai`i Families program in Waimanalo. Her educational and research interests include community development, family strengthening, and the prevention of substance abuse and violence. Her goal is to conduct and develop culturally appropriate research and programs to strengthen families and communities in Hawai`i.
