Awarded for the 2010 Community Impact Student Award - This award recognized one student per Hawai‘i Pacific Islands Campus Compact (HIPICC) member institution who exhibits outstanding leadership and innovative approaches in their community service or service-learning endeavors both on their campus and within their community.  The APIYVPC provided a letter of support for Ms. Ho-Lastimosa’s nomination.
 
 
Nominated for the Ola Pono Award - The Ola Pono Award honors those who make meaningful, substantial contributions to our community by promoting safe, healthy, and drug-free lifestyles.  The Waimānalo Community nominated “Aunty” Sharon Majit-Gorion for this award.
 
 
Nominated Distinguished Graduate Mentoring Award - The Distinguished Graduate Mentoring Award recognizes mentoring excellence by graduate faculty at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa (UHM).  Each year, the Graduate Council invites nominations and presents one award to an outstanding graduate faculty who demonstrates foremost excellence in mentoring.  Nominated Earl Hishinuma.
 
 
Nominted for the Research Corporation of the University of Hawai‘i 2009 Outstanding Employee of the Year - This annual award allows Principal Investigators to nominate employees for their outstanding achievements.  The APIYVPC nominated the group as a whole.
 
 
American Planning Association – Hawai‘i Chapter - The plan for the Waimānalo Youth and Family Collaborative received any award from the American Planning Association (Hawai‘i Chapter).  Practicum students from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Department of Urban and Regional Planning completed this plan, under the guidance of Dr. Karen Umemoto.  The award will be presented at the annual conference of the Hawai‘i Congress of Planning Officials in September 2009.
 
 
Awarded for Outstanding Community Service to Kailua High School - The APIYVPC was honored at the 2009 Kailua High School “Night of Excellence.”  The annual event serves to honor students and community members for outstanding work at and for Kailua High School.
 
 
Awarded a Travel Grant - Dr. Stephanie Nishimura was awarded a travel grant by the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Research Council.  The grants aim to support/assist faculty members to attend/present at integral conferences.  The application process included documentation/justification of why the recipient should receive the award, confirmation of acceptance to present at the conference, and a letter of recommendation from the Department Chair.
 
 
Awarded for the Outstanding  Community Mental Health Leader - Dr. Naleen Andrade, Professor and Chair of the University of Hawai‘i Department of Psychiatry and Senior Mentor for the APIYVPC, was named the Outstanding Community Mental Health Leader for 2009.  She will officially be honored during a banquet in May 2009.
 
 
Nominated for the 2010 NASSP National Principal of the Year - Principal Francine Honda has been nominated for the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) Principal of the Year award.  In May 2009 she was selected to represent the State of Hawai‘i at the national competition.
 
 
Nominated for the “Living Treasures” - Dr. Amy Agbayani, APIYVPC Community Advisory Board member, was named one of Hawai‘i's 2009 “Living Treasures”.  Announcements were made via the Honolulu Advertiser on 01/27/09.  She will be officially honored during a banquet in February 2009.
 
 
Nominated for the ACE Student Poster Award - This award will be given to student first authors whose poster have been accepted for presentation at a peer-reviewed conference within the last 2 years.  Nominations were Stephanie Nishimura and Jane Chung-Do.
 
 
Nominated for the Research Corporation of the University of Hawai‘i Outstanding Employee of the Year -
This annual award allows Principal Investigators to nominate employees for their outstanding achievements.  The APIYVPC nominated its Director of Community Mobilization (Tai-An Miao), and its Program Manager, Jeanelle Sugimoto.  Erin Boyd, Program Coordinator for the “Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Use” Survey project (an affiliate of the APIYVPC) was also nominated.
 
 
Awarded 2008 Undergraduate Student Excellence in Research Award - This award is sponsored by the Research Corporation of the University of Hawai‘i and the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Chancellor’s Office.  APIYVPC Student Research Associate, Leighton Vila, was granted this award.
 
 
Nominated for the Research Corporation of the University of Hawai‘i Outstanding Employee of the Year -
This annual award allows Principal Investigators to nominate employees for their outstanding achievements.  The APIYVPC nominated its Assistant Program Manager, Davis Rehuher, and its Program Manager, Jeanelle Sugimoto.
 
 
Certificate of Achievement Award for Outstanding Oral Presentation - Of the 1,000 minority students who presented posters at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS) in Austin, Texas, Leighton Vila was among the 100 students selected to give an oral presentation to be evaluated by a panel of judges.  He was awarded one of two awards in the category of Social & Behavioral Science: Public Health.  Leighton Vila presented on “Dating Violence” using APIYVPC data.
 
 
Submitted an Application for the Enoch Gordis Research Recognition Award for Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Fellows- The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) in cooperation with the Research Society on Alcoholism (RSA) announced the continuation of the Enoch Gordis Research Recognition Awards for Students and Postdoctoral Fellows for students who will present their research as a first author at the RSA meeting in the two broad areas of either (1) biomedical research or (2) psychosocial and treatment research.
 
 
Nominated for the Research Corporation of the University of Hawai‘i Outstanding Employee of the Year- This annual award allows Principal Investigators to nominate employees for their outstanding achievements.  The APIYVPC nominated its Program Manager, Jeanelle Sugimoto.
 
 
Nominated for the Robert W. Clopton Award for Distinguished Community Service - This award recognizes outstanding service by a University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa faculty member to the non-University community.  The APIYVPC nominated its former Director of Community Mobilization, Dr. David Mayeda.
 
 
Nominated for the Student Peace Video Competition - Competition sponsored within the 2007 Student Film Festival.  Ms. Shelly Andrews, Counselor at Kailua High School, has nominated a “Rumors” video created by her students in the Kailua High School Peer Mentoring program.
