The Community Mobilization and Training Plan is outlined as follows:
API Center has been working in partnership with Kailua High School to collect risk and protective factor data through student and parent surveys and student focus groups. This data collection effort will continue through focus groups and surveys for the next five years and in addition, a Waimanalo after school program for elementary school students, Hui Malama o ke Kai, will also be consulted to help identify risk and protective factors.
Preliminary analysis and interpretation of this data is being presented to the four community Work Groups and two larger public presentations are being planned for Spring 2006. Following these presentations, interested community members will be invited to join a volunteer Planning Committee to help the API Center and existing Work Groups in the task of prioritizing risk factors and assessing community resources. This input will be used to conduct a gap analysis for the Waimanalo and Kailua community by the end of Summer 2006.
The Planning Committee will collaborate with the Work Groups to develop a three-year comprehensive plan for youth violence prevention and reduction through a visioning process and systems analysis in Fall 2006.
Community involvement will be expanded to include new members in a Coordinating Body for program development and implementation over the next 4 years. Monitoring and evaluation of the resulting programs will be overseen jointly by the API Center, Work Groups, and Center for Disease Control.

Career Development: To facilitate career development and advancement among the API staff, graduate students, and junior researchers, a monthly training seminar has been designed to assist in the preparation of a manuscript and as a guide through the publication process. Skills learned in these training seminars may be translated to future grant writing and other peer-reviewed publications.
